The secrets to taking good care of your favourite jeans

As with all clothing, jeans need to be maintained on a daily basis, and from day one. Especially if it's your favourite pair of jeans that you can't live without! Whether they are men's, women's or children's jeans, here are a few basic rules to follow to maintain your jeans:

  1. Turn your jeans inside out to wash them
  2. Choose your detergent
  3. Fix the colours
  4. Pay attention to the frequency of washing
  5. Avoid the tumble dryer
  6. Do not iron
  7. Store it well6. Ne pas le repasser
  1. Turn your jeans inside out before putting them in the machine

Do you want to keep your favourite jeans looking good for as long as possible? To do so, there are a few essential rules to apply before machine washing: turn your jeans inside out and close all buttons and zips to avoid friction from the machine drum that could damage the denim. A recommendation to follow for each wash and for all your trousers!

  1. Choosing the right detergent

Avoid washing powders that leave marks, especially if your favourite jeans are dark. There are special liquid detergents for jeans or detergents for dark clothes that keep the colour of your trousers as long as possible and prevent them from bleeding. Of course, you should avoid bleach or hydrogen peroxide at all costs, otherwise you'll be saying goodbye to your favourite jeans...

  1. Set the colours in the first wash

Take care of your favourite jeans from the very first day! Raw denim has an unstable colour, and to keep its deep colour as long as possible, follow the guide! For the very first wash, pour two tablespoons of salt into your washing machine (and a glass of vinegar) to fix the indigo colour of your jeans as much as possible. Be careful: make sure you wash your new jeans in dark colours to avoid unpleasant surprises!

You can also give your jeans a cold water bath to fix their colour. Discover our tips for fixing the colour of your jeans.

  1. Reduce the frequency of washing

To keep your jeans looking new longer and to protect the environment, it is advisable to avoid washing them too often. Washing them too often will shorten their life span considerably. Once a month is recommended to wear your favourite jeans for longer. For small stains, simply rub the fabric gently with a damp cloth and soap. For larger stains, you can use a stain remover spray. Finally, you can air the jeans outside for a day to keep them fresh.

Of course, if your favourite jeans are really too dirty, don't hesitate to put them in the machine. Always choose a cold wash with minimum spin and a delicate programme to avoid white marks on your denim trousers.

  1. Avoid the tumble dryer

Beware, repeated tumble-drying and dry-cleaning damage the lycra fibres of your jeans, which are what give them their elasticity. The solution: simply let them air dry naturally! If you have one, use a drying rack and hang your denim trousers by the legs in the shade.

  1. Avoid ironing it

Make your life easier while taking care of your jeans! Ironing is not recommended for your favourite denim trousers. The heat and steam from the iron will alter its pretty indigo colour, which will fade over time, so there's no need to tarnish it early!

  1. Put your favourite jeans away properly

For impeccable jeans that will make all your friends jealous, fold them! Don't ball up your jeans in a hurry and don't take care when putting them away, otherwise you'll get repeated creases and wear them out quickly.
